We have a new neighbor!! Il Buco Alimentari & Vineria. The charming setting is just one of the attractions of this new Il Buco addition but what will definitely make you walk in and stay a while are the absolutely delectable specialties such as… house-made salumi and full flavored/full belly dishes like spaghetti alla bottarga; fresh ricotta with roasted beets, white grapefruit and pistachios; and slow-roasted short rib panini with gorgonzola and onion agrodolce. Empellón Cocina – brand new in the neighborhood!
Check out Empellón Taqueria‘s East-Side sister, Empellón Cocina, which recently opened on First Avenue. Chef Alex Stupak has created an exciting menu (minus tacos) which features delicious small and shared plates. Their guacamole is off the charts and was recently listed in New York Magazine’s Best Of New York! You can book a table or walk in and take a seat at the bar – their Tequila and Mezcal cocktails are sublime. Well worth exploring and just a stone’s throw away from the Hotel.

Neighborhood spots: Porchetta
Amongst all the wonderful sandwich shops, cafes and lunch spots in the East Village, we’re always grateful to have Porchetta within walking distance of the hotel. Chef Sara Jenkins and Matt Lindemulder opened their little shop in 2008 and it was an instant hit. Serving crispy, tasty sandwiches full of aromatic seasoning, Porchetta is entirely worth a wander to 7th Street for a unique bite of Italy in NYC. And if you want to take even more than the sandwich home with you, their salt seasoning is available for purchase!
