Neighborhood spots: Northern Spy Food Co.

It’s easy to be overwhelmed by choice in New York City.  That’s why it is incredibly satisfying to find a restaurant so good you don’t need to think, you just know where to go. We recently added Northern Spy Food Co.,  a cozy East Village spot, to our list of favorites and we can’t stop going back!  Chef Hadley Schmitt’s menu is full of delicious locally-sourced and seasonal dishes – we recently bonded with the team over our mutual love of buying spices at Dual Specialty Store on 1st Avenue! Opened in 2009, it is now open for lunch every day and we strongly suggest heading up a few blocks from the hotel for a cup of Hudson’s finest Strongtree coffee and a Kale Salad or one of their amazing sandwiches (we’re still dreaming about the Chicken & Egg!).

Remember, remember…

It’s the 5th of November! And over in England they are celebrating Guy Fawkes Night. Laura Cooper Brown has picked out of a couple of her favorite ways to remind herself of home. While she purchases her Marmite from Myers of Keswick and sups on Bangers ‘n Mash at Tea & Sympathy in the West Village, over on the East side she visits tailor extraordinaire, Alex Wilcox, at Lord Willy’s and knows where to go for New York’s finest curry… Brick Lane.

A walk down NoHo’s Bond Street!

When you think of an image of Downtown New York, Bond Street with its cobbles and cafes would certainly come to mind. Running from Bowery to Broadway, it is home to a few of our go-tos including Il Buco, The Smile, Billy Reid, Hung Ry and more!  Join Laura Cooper Brown for a walk down one of our favorite strips in the city…

Pulqueria – Chinatown’s newest discreetest underground spot!

Our friends Heather and Christopher Tierney, the brother/sister team of Apotheke fame, have downwardly expanded their empire. Their new restaurant/bar, Pulqueria, is located on Doyers Street in Chinatown just next to and underneath Apotheke. With a soft opening during Fashion Week, which included hosting the Last Magazine party, Pulqueria has created quite a stir amongst restaurant-goers and party-goers alike.  The menu includes Mexico City-inspired Pulque, Tequila and Mezcal cocktails and authentic Tapas. Take a look at our video where Laura Cooper Brown samples an Inebriated Monkey, Pumpkin Seed Dip and more…
